The best motorcycles for shorter riders
Choosing the right bike can be tricky if you’re below average in height, particularly with adventure and big sport bikes with aggressive leaned-forward riding positions.
The key is in finding the bike that gives you confidence, control and comfort. If you're a shorter rider, you’ll want a motorcycle that has a low seat height, narrow frame, and manageable weight and power delivery. Here’s a breakdown of the best motorbikes across different styles that are well-suited for shorter riders, around 5’6” and under:
Suzuki SV650
Suzuki’s middleweight naked option is an excellent option with a comfortable seat height of just 785mm. Combine this with a narrow frame and lightweight chassis and you’ve got yourself a bike that is easy to handle at slow speeds or in traffic, no matter your height. This doesn’t mean it compromises on performance, however. Whilst the SV650 is certainly a beginner-friendly bike, it still packs plenty of performance to keep experienced riders engaged.

Triumph Bonneville T100
For a 900cc bike, the Triumph Bonneville is well-balanced and relatively lightweight. Plus, its narrow, flat seat design, which sits at a height of 790mm, allows you to comfortably reach the ground.
If you’re after a retro design, then this is the option for you. A timeless look combined with all the ergonomics a smaller rider is after.

Harley Davidson Sportster
A lot of cruisers are suitable for shorter riders thanks to their low-slung design and relaxed riding position. An ever-popular choice is the Harley-Davidson Sportster. With a seat height of between 750-760mm, depending on the model, you’ll find your feet comfortably planted on the floor and it’s upright riding position saves you from stretching for your handlebars.
Its classic cruiser stance and unmistakable Harley styling make it a great option for those who want both comfort and a bit of character in their ride.

Kawasaki Ninja 400
The Kawasaki Ninja series is popular among all types of riders and shorter riders are no exception. The Ninja 400 has a seat height of 785mm and a narrow frame that make it a comfortable option. It’s a lightweight option with smooth power delivery and nimble handling, a great option for beginners. If you are looking for something quick and sporty but also manageable, then look no further.

BMW F700GS
Adventure bikes are often taller bikes than their sports, naked or cruiser counterparts, so they might seem like a no-go for shorter riders. However, the BMW F700GS, as well as other adventure bikes, feature an adjustable seat height which can be lowered to 790mm or 765mm with lowered front and rear suspension.
It's a light adventure bike with a low centre of gravity, making it easier to manoeuvre both on the road and on trails. The narrow ‘nose’ on the seat makes it easier to get both feet on the ground when stopped.

Honda MSX125 ‘Grom’
The Honda Grom is easily the smallest bike on this list, but that doesn’t mean it compromises on fun or comfort. Its standard seat height sits at 765mm and it has a wet weight of just 102kg both of which make it incredibly easy to ride for shorter riders. Add to that its fun, torquey single‑cylinder engine, customisable styling, and impressive fuel economy, and you get a bike that's not only practical but also genuinely enjoyable to ride.

Indian Scout Bobber
If you’re looking for classic cruiser styling and a mighty engine that is still manageable for shorter riders, then here you go. The Indian Scout Bobber has a seat height 649mm and a compact, narrow chassis with chopped fenders and lowered suspension. Combine this with its potent V-twin 1100cc engine and you’ve got a powerful yet controllable cruiser.

Ducati Monster
The Ducati Monster is another bike with an adjustable seat height. The seat can be adjusted to 785mm, and it’s compact, naked design, combined with a lowered suspension option makes it Ducati’s best option for shorter riders. It delivers sports-bike performance with upright comfort, excellent manoeuvrability, and agile handling—ideal for both urban commuting and spirited weekend rides.

Tips for shorter riders
- Check seat width: A narrow seat can help just as much as a low seat height.
- Looking at lowering options: Some bikes can be safely lowered via links or seat swaps.
- Adjust suspension preload: Especially on ADV or sport bikes to reduce height slightly.
- Try before buying: Sit on the bike at a dealer to ensure you can flat-foot or comfortably toe-touch. At SuperBike Factory, we have the largest selection on second-hand bikes in Europe. Come down to one of our sites and find the right bike for you:
